The winning relay team of Eve Hewitt, Scarlett Ferris, Olivia MacLellan & Mia Anderson

19 personal best times out of 23 swims tells the story of a fantastic morning of competition from our young novice league swimmers. A total of six speed flashes (coloured purple) were handed out this time round to swimmers who delivered some outstanding swims. Eve Hewitt kick started the day with a flash in the first race of the morning. The 50m Backstroke then saw lifetime bests from all of the swimmers with Rona Moss taking over six seconds off her time to win a flash. Similarly in the breaststroke we saw all of the swimmers improve on their entry times with an excellent five second pb from Emily Baxter to pick up a speed flash. Kirsten Smith swam really well to improve her already impressive time and pick up another speed flash this season. The Butterfly followed, a stroke many of the young swimmers find challenging, however recent coaching practise showed through with both Amy Spencer and Alex Henderson setting massive new lifetime bests and Alex securing a hard to earn speed flash too. Oliver Goad, benefitting from his recent summer school training also set a new pb time taking over two-seconds off. Olivia MacLellan, competing in her first ever gala turned in a smashing 25m Freestyle swim taking nearly nine-seconds off her time and just missing out on a speed flash in her first ever race!! The high speed Freestyle continued as Ebony Sharp took 15 seconds off her time in a really strong swim. Abigail Cousins and Elle Corbishley swam extremely well too, both setting pb’s and Elle picking up a flash in her first sub-40 swim. The 100m swims saw the more experienced swimmers competing and setting some fabulous new times. The highlight was Lucy Robertson’s swim where she took off over 15 seconds to make her one of the fastest girls in her age group at Cupar. The relay races are always a real highlight for our kids and this weekend was no exception. The girls 9 and under squad, competing against 10 other teams, went on to place first with an excellent time and some fantastic individual swims. 16 teams then competed in the girls 10-12yrs age group with the Cupar B team finishing in second place, touched out by only one-tenth of a second by Step Rock of St Andrews. A hugely satisfying weekend for all involved. My thanks to Duncan Hewitt and Alan Cousins for their support poolside with the swimmers and to parents who undertook timekeeping duties too.
